This policy explains what personal data we process when you visit aegeanwire.com (the "Site"), why, and the rights you have. We process personal data in accordance with the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Data we collect

AegeanWire is a public news publication and does not require an account to read. We keep data collection to a minimum:

  • Technical log data — IP address, browser type, pages requested and timestamps, generated automatically by our hosting infrastructure for security and reliability.
  • Analytics data — aggregated, privacy-respecting usage statistics (pages viewed, referrers, approximate country) to understand readership. See our Cookie Policy.
  • Correspondence — if you email us (for example, corrections or enquiries), we process your email address and message to respond.

We do not knowingly collect special categories of personal data, and we do not sell personal data.

Why we process it (legal basis)

  • Legitimate interests — operating, securing and improving the Site, and measuring readership in aggregate.
  • Consent — for any non-essential cookies/analytics, where required.
  • Legal obligation — where we must retain records to comply with applicable law.

Service providers

We share limited data with providers that help us run the Site, each acting under contract: cloud hosting (Railway), object storage for images (DigitalOcean Spaces), and social-media distribution (Ahrefs). These providers process data only on our instructions. Some may process data outside Türkiye; where they do, appropriate safeguards apply.

Retention

Technical logs are retained only as long as needed for security and operations. Correspondence is retained as long as needed to handle your request and to meet legal record-keeping obligations.

Your rights

Under the KVKK (and the GDPR where it applies) you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, and lodge a complaint with the competent authority. To exercise any right, contact privacy@aegeanwire.com.

Changes

We may update this policy; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version. Material changes will be noted on this page.
