IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced the signing of InterContinental Bursa, a 231-key luxury property in Bursa, Türkiye, developed in partnership with owner Atis Yapi. The new-build hotel is expected to open in late 2024.
The hotel will be the largest in Bursa, featuring 231 bedrooms, multiple restaurants and meeting rooms, swimming pools, a spa, and a fitness area. It will be part of a larger mixed-use development that includes 850 residential units, 112 branded residences, a 75,000-square-metre shopping, living, entertainment and medical centre, as well as a local museum and playgrounds.
Willemijn Geels, VP Development, Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “Türkiye is a key growth market for IHG and the signing of our first InterContinental property in Bursa is a wonderful milestone. We are delighted to be working with owner company Atis Yapi and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership. This latest signing demonstrates IHG’s ongoing commitment to bring our market-leading brands to new and inviting destinations across Europe.”
Ahmet Atis, Owner of Atis Yapi, commented: “It is with great pleasure that we can announce our partnership with IHG Hotels & Resorts and the signing of the new InterContinental Bursa. This luxury hotel will take accommodation standards in Bursa to new heights never seen before in the city.”
Bursa, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its Ottoman architecture and thermal hot springs, has a population of over 3 million and is a centre for textiles, automotive, furniture, and agricultural exports. The InterContinental Bursa will introduce the brand’s signature luxury to this growing market.
Why it matters
The signing of InterContinental Bursa marks IHG’s entry into Türkiye’s fourth-largest city with its flagship luxury brand, filling a gap in the upscale accommodation segment in a city that combines heritage tourism with significant business travel. The hotel’s integration into a large mixed-use development with residential, retail, and medical facilities positions it as a anchor for a new urban hub, potentially driving both leisure and corporate demand. For the travel trade, this adds a high-end option in a destination that has traditionally lacked international luxury hotel inventory, opening opportunities for tour operators and corporate travel managers to package Bursa alongside Istanbul or other Turkish destinations.
