Passenger traffic across the 14 regional airports operated by Fraport Greece climbed to 5,598,246 in June 2026, up 4.7% compared to the same month last year, according to the company’s preliminary traffic data. The increase corresponds to roughly 250,000 additional passengers across the network for the month.
Domestic travel accounted for 859,864 passengers, up 4.6% year-on-year, while international traffic reached 4,738,382 travelers, marking a 4.7% rise compared to June 2025. International passengers made up close to 85% of total traffic during the month, reflecting the seasonal peak in inbound demand.
Thessaloniki and Chania lead growth
Thessaloniki Airport "Makedonia" remained the network’s main growth driver, adding nearly 62,000 passengers for an 8.0% increase, with international traffic (up 9.0%) outpacing domestic growth (up 5.6%). Chania Airport followed closely, rising 6.8% to 660,777 passengers, with domestic traffic up a sharp 12.6% and international traffic up 5.8%. Corfu Airport also posted solid gains, reaching 788,391 passengers, an increase of 5.5%, driven entirely by international traffic (up 6.5%), as domestic numbers slipped 7.6%.
Mixed results across smaller airports
Samos Airport recorded the strongest relative growth in the network, with traffic up 15.0% to 85,423 passengers, powered by a 17.7% jump in international arrivals. Skiathos Airport followed with a 10.3% rise to 133,060 passengers, while Mykonos Airport grew 5.1% to 267,568, and Santorini Airport added 13,083 passengers for a 3.8% increase. Rhodes Airport, the network’s second-busiest, grew 3.6% to 1,093,044 passengers, supported by a 4.0% rise in international traffic.
Not every airport shared in the gains. Kavala Airport was the network’s weakest performer, down 8.4% to 50,038 passengers, as international traffic fell 12.2%. Kos Airport and Mytilini Airport both recorded marginal declines of 1.0% and 0.9%, respectively, with international arrivals softening at both destinations.
United Kingdom and Germany top source markets
The United Kingdom was the leading source market for international arrivals in June, accounting for 1,329,148 passengers, followed by Germany with 751,276 and Poland with 385,889. Italy (367,305), the Netherlands (202,881) and Sweden (150,850) rounded out the top source markets for the month, while Israel contributed 119,100 passengers.
Year-to-date performance
For the first six months of 2026, the 14 airports handled a combined 13,650,938 passengers, up 5.4% compared to the same period last year. Domestic traffic rose 5.8% to 3,623,842 passengers, while international traffic increased 5.3% to 10,027,096. Cluster A airports (Aktion, Chania, Corfu, Kavala, Kefallinia, Thessaloniki and Zakynthos) handled 8,193,123 passengers year-to-date, up 6.8%, while Cluster B airports (Kos, Mytilini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Samos, Santorini and Skiathos) handled 5,457,815 passengers, up 3.4%.
Why it matters
The sustained growth across Fraport Greece’s network, particularly the 4.7% June increase, signals robust summer demand for Greek destinations. The dominance of international traffic (85% of June passengers) underscores the reliance on key source markets like the UK and Germany. The divergence between high-growth airports (Thessaloniki, Chania, Samos) and laggards (Kavala, Kos) highlights shifting traveler preferences and potential capacity constraints. For tour operators and DMCs, the data points to strong forward bookings and the need to secure airlift for the remainder of the peak season.
